Anti-racism protests in the UK
Thousands of anti-racism protesters took to the streets in Hull, Edinburgh and London on Saturday, August 10, after racist riots targeting Muslims and migrants spread across the UK.
For the fourth consecutive day, anti-racism protesters outnumbered anti-immigration protesters in some locations.
Riots broke out after misinformation on social media suggested that the suspect in the July 29 knife attack in Southport, northwest England, was a Muslim migrant.
More than 480 people have been arrested so far, with nearly 150 charged. Dozens have been held in jail. The cases are being fast-tracked through the justice system and more are expected to be convicted. The government hopes that swift judicial action will help prevent further unrest.
