This is the horrifying moment a mob drags a man from his car while onlookers shout “kill them”. In the shocking footage, filmed during riots in Hull on Saturday, one member of the crowd can be heard using a racial slur.
In the clip, riot police from Humberside are seen moving towards the scene where moments earlier, a silver BMW was attacked and its doors thrown open. The footage – originally streamed on TikTok – includes someone saying: “Someone is going to get hurt here”.
Further into the video, another person can be heard shouting “kill them”, reports the Mirror. In Hull, four individuals have been arrested and three officers injured after a group targeted a hotel housing asylum seekers.
Humberside Police Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore reported that officers were pelted with eggs and bottles, and windows were smashed at the hotel accommodating migrants.
Elsewhere in the city, a ShoeZone shop in the city centre was set ablaze, prompting a response from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.
Elsewhere, violent protests in towns and cities led to officers being injured as objects such as bricks, chairs and bottles were thrown at police. Merseyside Police said a number of officers were injured during a “serious disorder” in Liverpool city centre, with one officer being hit on the head by a chair.
Bricks were thrown at officers in Stoke-on-Trent and fireworks were thrown amid tense exchanges between an anti-Islamic group and an anti-racism rally in Belfast. Four men have been arrested following disorder in the Staffordshire city.
At least three people were led away in handcuffs in Nottingham following scuffles between opposing groups in Nottingham. In Leeds, a group shouting derogatory phrases about Muslims were outnumbered by counter-protesters shouting “Nazi scum off our streets”.
Greater Manchester Police said a dispersal notice had been authorised for the city centre and Merseyside Police said greater stop and search powers had been granted for officers to deal with planned demonstrations. In Manchester, footage showed scuffles breaking out in Piccadilly Gardens this afternoon.
A number of punches were thrown and metal fences were hurled as police could be seen attempting to keep order.
Police forces across the nation are on high alert, especially following the violent outbreak at the initial weekend protests in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, on Friday evening. The incident led to eight arrests and three police officers requiring hospital treatment for various injuries.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has given his “full support” to the police to take action against “extremists” who are trying to “sow hate” by intimidating communities. This comes as he held emergency discussions with ministers about the unrest in certain parts of England.
