Footage captured the disturbing moment a boy jumped onto railway tracks into the path of an oncoming train.

Network Rail has released a series of shocking clips in a bid to stop trespassers on the train lines. In one part of the footage, a teenage boy can be seen leaping onto the track in front of an approaching train at Bramley Station in Leeds, Yorkshire Live reports.

In another, two boys can be seen running along a platform before one of the leaps onto the tracks and pulls himself up the other side. In a third two adults can be seen pausing in the middle of the tracks to take pictures.

Network Rail said trespassers can cause ‘devastating impacts’ on the railway lines. Chloe Creffield, Network Rail’s community safety manager in the North and East, said: “The railway is an incredibly dangerous place and people who trespass are putting themselves at risk and breaking the law.

“We urge people to remember the consequences of trespassing and the devastating impact it can have on themselves, their family, passengers and the wider community, and train drivers. Closing the railway while we investigate incidents of trespass disrupts lives and also causes costly delays for passengers.

Shocking CCTV shows railway trespassers ‘risking lives’ jumping on tracks

“Ahead of the summer holidays, we hope the CCTV footage will remind the public to think of their own safety and see that trespassing on the railway can be life-threatening.”

In the video, the first, third and final clip is taken from Bramley, Leeds. The second clip is from Newton Ayclifffe in County Durham.

The fifth clip is from Seaham station in County Durham and the fourth clip is from Elland station in Leeds. Network Rail said there were 2,660 incidents of trespassing across the North and East last year, with 314 of them being children.

Around 70 per cent of incidents take place during the summer months. In the past year trespassing has caused 12,000 minutes – eight days – of delays for train passengers.
