The film follows the story of 8 year old evacuee William Beech who is sent from London to live in the heart of the English countryside in the quiet village of Little Weirwold during the Second World War.
William arrives in the village physically and emotionally scarred by the cruelty of his mother.Its a World War II tale in which a widower living in a small village takes in a nine-year-old evacuee from London. The widower soon realises that his young charge has been damaged both mentally and physically at the hands of his strict mother. He sets about undoing the damage, teaching the youngster to read, write and draw, but as his tenth birthday looms, the child is summoned back to the city by his cruel mother Final tragedy comes in a return visit to London William’s friend Zach is killed in an air raid during a return visit to London William is very sad but with the help of Ginnie, George, Carrie, his old teacher Annie Hartridge and her new baby, William settles into a new, happy life with his father, Mister Tom.
