US skateboarder Nyjah Huston has raised concerns about the quality of the Paris 2024 Olympic medals, revealing that his bronze medal has visibly deteriorated just a week after the men’s street skateboarding final on July 29. Huston, who won third place in the event, posted on Instagram that his medal has started to chip and lose its color.
“While the medals look impressive when brand new, they don’t seem to hold up well after a bit of wear and tear,” Huston shared with his followers. “Even the front is starting to chip off a little. Maybe Olympic medals need to step up in quality a bit.”
Designed by Parisian jeweler Chaumet, each medal features two distinct sides. One side boasts an 18g hexagonal token made from iron sourced from the Eiffel Tower, surrounded by grooves symbolizing rays of light. The other side showcases Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, alongside depictions of the Acropolis and the Eiffel Tower.
