Is UK Intelligence Right? Did Ukraine’s Brutal Strike on Rostov-on-Don Deliver the Final Blow to Humiliate Russia’s Submarine Bastards? H

In the latest update on the Russia-Ukraine conflict on August 7, the British Defense Intelligence Agency said: “On August 3, Ukraine announced that it had attacked the Rostov-on-Don submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the port of Sevastopol, Crimea. After the attack, the ship sank. It is very likely that Ukrainian forces used long-range ATACMS missiles in this attack.”

UK intelligence says Ukraine attack on Rostov-on-Don is 'final chapter for Russian submarines' - 1

According to the agency, the submarine was not fully repaired after the attack in September 2023 and this latest attack could be considered “the final chapter for the Russian submarine”.

British intelligence said the Ukrainian attack highlighted the growing risks to Russian troops in Crimea and would likely force Russia to consider plans to move its naval forces away from the peninsula.

Rostov-on-Don is one of four Russian Kilo-class submarines capable of launching Kalibr missiles, and was commissioned on December 26, 2014.

The Ukrainian General Staff noted that the submarine was significantly damaged during a Ukrainian missile attack on September 13, 2023. It was subsequently repaired and tested in the port of Sevastopol. The value of the submarine is estimated at $300 million.
