Keeping the kids busy during the school holidays can be tricky, especially as they’re off for six weeks over the summer. Fortunately the weather has been kind to us so far, which makes things a little easier when you’re planning activities to keep the little ones – and older kids – entertained.
A trip to the beach is always a good shout, and we’re spoilt for choice for seaside destinations within easy reach of Greater Manchester. If you’re looking for one that’s especially kid-friendly then Lytham St Annes is the place to go.
Home to a vast stretch of sand, a gorgeous Victorian pier and a picture-postcard row of pastel-coloured beach huts, this seaside spot is beautiful on a summer’s day. But Lytham St Annes has something else to show off – a splash park for kids which costs just £1.
It’s perfect for little ones to cool off during the heat of summer, and ideal for anyone who hates sand between their toes. Located in the town’s Promenade Gardens, it’s hugely popular with families and easy to see why.
One visitor said it was their “favourite budget summer’s day out” on TripAdvisor. Another said: “Everything was clean and was amazing value at just £1. Brilliant for a hot summer’s day. There is a place for parents to sit and relax while the kids have some fun.”
Parents can book one-hour slots online up to 48 hours in advance, with each slot costing just £1, and accompanying adults go free. The age range for the splash park is 3 – 12. It’s open daily from 10am to 4pm with five sessions throughout the day.
