Parents and children were heard screaming at police during the ‘disturbance’
Scenes of chaos and ‘disorder’ erupted on a residential street after two teenagers were arrested on Sunday night (August 4). Police clashed with furious locals who came marching out of their homes during the incident on Rosthwaite Close, in Middleton.
Officers stopped a ‘suspected stolen motorbike’ before the disturbance broke out. In footage shared on social media, a large number of police vehicles could be seen responding as the chaos escalated.
Parents could be heard shouting “he’s 13, he’s 13”, and other young children were heard crying and screaming in the background as officers attended.
Police said two teenagers, whose ages have not been provided, were arrested on suspicion of affray but later de-arrested. In social media footage, one person, that appeared to be a young boy, was seen on the ground.
A large number of officers were then seen urging people to move away. An investigation into the disorder has been launched.
