The RSIFF recently collaborated with the production of a period drama, co-producing a French movie for the first time. The film was given post-production support, and it made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Notably, the movie features renowned actors Mohammed Al-Turki and Johnny Depp.
Depp joined an impressive line-up of celebrities at the festival’s opening night, including Will Smith, Michelle Williams, Diane Kruger, Maya Diab, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Aseel Omran. The event was truly unforgettable and began with the premiere of “HWJN,” a movie directed by Yasir Al-Yasiri. This film is based on a young adult novel by the Saudi writer Ibraheem Abbas and is set in modern-day Jeddah. The story follows a compassionate jinn, an invisible being in Islamic culture, who learns about his royal heritage.
Maïwenn, a French director, brings to the big screen a period drama featuring herself as Madame du Barry, an 18th Century courtesan, alongside Johnny Depp as King Louis XV. The celebrity-studded festival jury is headed by director Baz Luhrmann and includes Joel Kinnaman, Freida Pinto, Amina Khalil, and Paz Vega. The Red Sea International Film Festival has 11 categories of films, with the theme “Your Story, Your Festival.” The festival will take place from November 30 to December 9 and will showcase a variety of films, including special screenings, competitions, and new cinema shorts.
