Despite the news of his friend Shane MacGowan’s passing, Johnny Depp displayed a courageous front during the second day of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on Friday.
The singer and Johnny were very close friends for over thirty years. The actor had previously admitted that he fell in love with the star when they first met, as seen in a 1994 picture. During their recent outing, Johnny appeared smart in a crisp white shirt, thick-soled black shoes, and white sunglasses with a blue tint. He also accessorized with his signature chunky rings and silver earrings, showcasing his love for jewellery. While most of his impressive tattoo collection was hidden, some of his body art was visible on his chest. The film festival began with the world premiere of HJWN, a Saudi fantasy feature. Johnny is attending to present the MENA premiere of Maiwenn’s Cannes 2023 title, Jeanne du Barry. The movie tells the story of Jeanne Bécu, an illegitimate daughter of an impoverished seamstress born in 1743. She rose through the Court of Louis XV to become his last official mistress.
Despite feeling down, Johnny made the decision to go to the screening of Jeanne Du Barry at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As he graced the red carpet, the 60-year-old celebrity looked sharp and stylish in his sleek black suit.
Shane, a close friend of Johnny, had been struggling with viral encephalitis – a serious condition that causes swelling in the brain – and had been in and out of the hospital for months. He was recently discharged in time for his upcoming birthday on Christmas Day. Despite his hard-partying lifestyle and on-stage meltdowns during his heyday in the 1980s, Shane’s health had deteriorated in recent years due to his years of substance and alcohol abuse. He was aided by his wife and carer at home, and was confined to a wheelchair. Sadly, Shane passed away just days after his fifth wedding anniversary. Johnny had played guitar at Shane’s wedding and had also made a biopic about him in 2020, which chronicled his rise to fame and struggles with addiction. The two were firm friends, and Johnny had even performed with Shane on stage for his 60th birthday celebration alongside other notable musicians and actors.
Johnny had a friend named Shane who was going through a tough time fighting viral encephalitis. This dangerous illness causes the swelling of the brain and had landed Shane in St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin for several months.
